Městské slavnosti, veřejný prostor a demokracie

Jak plánovat město pro lepší občanskou společnost?

Masopust, karneval, průvod… některé mají mnohasetletou historii a jiné vznikly teprve nedávno. Jakou podobu mají městské slavnosti v 21. století? A mohou do městského života vnášet více pestrosti, inkluzivity a demokratičnosti?

O svých aktivitách, zkušenostech a plánech do budoucna budou hovořit zástupkyně a zástupci slavností Zinneke Parade v Bruselu, Fasnacht v Basileji, Sametového posvícení v Praze, Sint Maarten Parade v Utrechtu, Fluxus v Kaunasu a Rêvons Rue v Paříži. Úvodní přednášku pronese a debatu povede Prof. Dr. Eric Corijn, Cosmopolis Centre for Urban Research, Free University Brussels.

Urban festivities, Public Space and Democracy

How can a city be planned for a better civil society?

Masopust, carnival, parade… some traditions have shaped cities for centuries, while others have only recently emerged. In the 21st century, what forms do urban festivities take? And can they make life in cities more vibrant, inclusive and democratic?

Representatives of the Zinneke Parade in Brussels, Fasnacht in Basel, Velvet Carnival in Prague, Sint Maarten Parade in Utrecht, Fluxus in Kaunas and Rêvons Rue in Paris will share their activities, experiences and plans for their future direction. Prof. Dr. Eric Corijn, Cosmopolis Centre for Urban Research, Free University Brussels, will open with an introductory lecture and guide the debate.

4th Symposium on Public Festivities: Prague – Brussels – Basel

Playful public realm as democratic expression: How urban parades contribute to the formation of civic society

The symposium investigates how urban rituals in the form of creative parades contribute to shaping public space, identity and civic imagination, and how they intertwine with urban planning and cultural narratives.

Representatives of the Zinneke Parade (Brussels), Fasnacht (Basel), and Sametové posvícení (Prague) will share their perspectives, introduced by a keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Eric Corijn (Cosmopolis Centre for Urban Research, Free University Brussels). Experts from the Prague Institute of Planning and Development IPR together with Creative Prague will present the topic in relation to public space in Prague.

The symposium invites professionals and practitioners to join and take part in an open discussion with all participants.
